If you are charged with a DUI, you may lose your driver’s license. This can have a major impact on your life. For example, you may be unable to get to and from work, greatly affecting your ability to make a living. As a result, some states offer conditional driver’s licenses. Read on to learn more about conditional licenses in New Jersey.

Does New Jersey offer conditional licenses?

In some states, a person may be eligible to receive a special kind of license if theirs is suspended after a DWI. This is referred to as a conditional license. With this license, individuals who have had their driving privileges suspended are allowed to drive. It is important to note that with this license, you can only drive under very specific circumstances. Unfortunately, the state of New Jersey does not offer this type of license to individuals who are facing license suspension or revocation.

What are the penalties for driving without a license?

If you lose your license due to a DUI and continue to drive, you will face serious legal trouble for driving without a license. Driving with a suspended license is taken very seriously in New Jersey. This is because if you have a suspended license, you likely engaged in some dangerous behavior. So, by driving with a suspended or revoked license, you are ignoring court orders, while simultaneously putting yourself and others on the road at risk. If you are pulled over and found driving with a suspended license, you may face the following penalties:

  • Individuals facing their first offense can be charged with a $500 fine as well as a license suspension for up to 6 months.
  • Those facing a second offense can be charged a $750 fine, an extended license suspension up to 6 more months, and possible jail time up to 5 days.
  • For third or subsequent offenders, they can face a $1000 fine, an additional license suspension up to 6 months, and possible jail time up to 10 days.
